Brief Synopsis:
1953. Sighet. A hero of the Greek-Catholic resistance faces an unusual torturer. Only one way out….Conversion or death.

In 1950 the entire group of Greek-Catholic leaders is arrested and locked up in Sighet prison. Here, behind bars, they meet the people who made the Great Union happen, Iuliu Maniu being one of them.

Together with the great Romanian politicians, these famous religious people from Transilvania are the last “relics” of a society considered long gone. The new leadership enforced by the Soviets does not accept the existence of a Church parallel with the Orthodox one, especially one which has ties with the Vatican.

The torturers’ goal is simple: the prison warden and the Soviet political officer, helped by an unusual torturer, put continuous pressure on the priests, trying to force them to convert. One man rises high amongst them and he gradually becomes a guide for the other priests: Bishop Iuliu Hossu. This is the story of him and his brothers in suffering.

Brief Synopsis:
Sorin Toma is an angry and stubborn individual. In his years of working as an investigator for CNSAS (The Council of Study for the Archives of Securitate - the former Communist secret police) he has seen lots of evil deeds and scarce results. It seems that the only heritage he could pass onto his young colleague, the legal adviser Radu Olar, is one of hatred, threats and a built-up need of vengeance.

When Radu is almost determined to leave this challenging partnership, the case of a lifetime shows up. New evidence seems to have come up leading to a possible indictment. A prominent religious figure of contemporary Romania - father Iustin Manu - seems to be not only a culprit for collaborating with the Communist police, but also possibly involved in a murderous act.

Without the proper judicial authority, but attempting to force an explanation, the two investigators climb to father Iustin’s hermitage, in a cave at the top of a mountain. At the end of this battle of convictions and human energy, none of the protagonists will be the same as before.

Cosmin Selesi, Aliona Munteanu, Andi Vasluianu, Rodica Ionescu si Valentin Uritescu.

Brief Synopsis:
In a corrupt world, the victim turns into aggressor.

In a country town, Emil (32 years old, common) becomes unemployed when the factory where he worked as a turner is closed down. He is married to Ana (30 years old, pleasant), saleswoman; together they have a son, Dorin (6 years old, nice, clever).

After his wife loses her job too, the two decide to emigrate in Australia. Emil sells the apartment and the car bought at their wedding and moves with his family at his parents-in-law who live in the suburbs.

Emil goes to Bucharest to exchange Romanian “lei” into dollars. At the exchange office he is approached by an individual who offers him a better exchange rate than the one at the bank. Fearing the police, the two men exchange their money quickly and the person disappears. Emil realizes that he has been deceived. Instead of money he finds himself holding a bunch of worthless paper sheets, fake dollars. He is beat, he wonders through the city without a purpose.

At the police station, where he denounces the theft, Emil is told that it is his fault for illegally exchanging money and that there are few chances to get his money back, so he does not sign the complaint. At the station he meets Lili (23 years old, blonde, beautiful), a prostitute from Moldova who came to Romania in search of her lover. Advised by Lili, Emil lets his family think that he deposited the money at the bank and that, finding an excellent job offer, he left for Germany.

Meanwhile, he roams the exchange offices from all over the city. Finally, he finds the thief in front of another exchange office, with other accomplices. Emil follows the thief to his home, catches him and forces him into the house where he beats him in order to receive his money back. The thief tells him that he does not have any more money because he had to pay some debts. Angry, Emil savagely beats him until he dies.

While his relationship with Lili is advancing, Emil takes over the deceased’s business and becomes a conman himself: in front of the exchange office he deceives the illegal currency exchange fans.

One night he goes home to see his loved ones without their knowledge and then he sends them money.

Emil is told by his wife that he is wanted for murder and decides to leave the country.

Music: Petru Margineanu
Editing:
Nita Chivulescu
Starring:
Maria Ploae, Marcel Iures, Tamara Cretulescu, Horatiu Malaiele, Monica Ghiuta, Cornel Scripcaru, Oana Maria Margineanu, Andrei Runcanu

Brief Synopsis:
Seven characters, five adults and two teenagers, seem to be spending a peaceful weekend in the holiday house of Rodica and Radu Pana.
They are celebrating, in a manner of speaking, the return of Maria, Rodica’s one-time friend and Radu’s former fiancée. She has come back to her native country 16 years after having defected to America.
Maria is here to learn first-hand why in the States she was considered a false defector, why her fiancé failed to follow her as they had agreed, and especially who “recommended” her to the Securitate as a possible collaborator.
In a few hours things get dramatically sorted out. Maria learns that Irina, Rodica’s daughter, was conceived while she was still in the country. Also that Rodica had actually planned everything, including Maria’s enrollment with the Securitate. Radu discovers he is the father of Maria’s son, Petru, and that Rodica has known it all along. Irina will find that Petru, on whom she has a crash, is her brother.
Therefore, she is very close to shooting all those she thinks have let her down.
This is a story about love, friendship and betrayal in terrible times. It is a story about lies and their impact in time. About truth and its price tag.

These are coordinates that places her in the family of some important european postbelic cineasts, authors, in the most profound sense of the word, whos films belong to them “like flesh and blood”.
“A merry world” is the director’s last film, a movie made in a tragi-comic manner about our romanian world that we hope it’s a transition one...

A young intellectual woman, Nicole, is arrested in the years of Stalinism simply for being an active member of an opposition party. There follow three months of exhausting interrogation and isolation. Alone in a cell, she undergoes a spiritual experience similar to that of the great mystics. She proceeds to an in-depth soul-searching that helps her discover the power of faith and steels her to put up resistance. Nicole goes through the ordeal of communist prisons, conflicts and risky activities, and manages to provide a heartening example for the other inmates. Daily prison life is not drab but full of unexpected happenings like a story. This is an extremely objective film that scans with warmth and sensitivity a woman's emotional testimony of faith.
